I am in love - hugs to panasonic rice cooker

Every Indian kitchen has one or more pressure cookers. In fact when I first went abroad, I carried a pressure cooker with me and the wonderful Hawkins recipe book that comes with it. I never thought, anything could ever reduce my use of the pressure cooker. But today, I discovered the Panasonic Rice Cooker, because of which I will hardly ever use my pressure cooker! Now people will not need to carry a pressure cooker abroad !

Many of us use the Pressure Cooker to boil rice, daal, vegetables or chicken. We put the perforated plate on the bottom of the Pressure cooker, add water, place the bowl containing daal or rice (with water) in the pressure cooker and give it appropriate number of whistles.

The Panasonic Rice cooker (wrongly named ! it should be electric steam cooker), basically works in exactly the same way except that it uses electricity. You put rice or boil dal or vegetables, a steel or aluminum bowl, add water. Then put the perforated plate in the Panasonic Cooker, add some water and then add the bowl inside the cooker. Cover it with the Panasonic cooker lid and switch it on. If you want to check if the food is ready, switch it off and open the lid.

The Panasonic Cooker has many advantages over the Pressure cooker. The cooking time is almost the same, perhaps lesser and there is no cooling off or waiting time ! Since the Panasonic cooker does not sit on the flame, it doesn't need to be washed ! It can also heat up food as fast as a microwave, the only difference is that the container needs to be a metal one. The only disadvantage is that you can use the Pressure Cooker to fry but you can't do that in the Panasonic Cooker.

The only reason why this wonderful technology did not fly, was because of its stupid marketing department. Prestige and Hawkins did a wonderful job by spreading awareness about the pressure cooker, its fuel efficiency, providing a super awesome cookbook, giving exchange offers and more ! The Panasonic Marketing guys should start an exchange offer - give your old pressure cooker, get discount on the Panasonic Cooker !

So go girls, give yourself the joy of a Panasonic Cooker. Many thanks to the thoughtful person who gifted us one on our wedding last year :). I now know what to gift my friends on their weddings and anniversaries next time ;) http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/SR-G06FG?t=manuals
